Geographic location
The Balti municipality, the residence of the Northern Development Region of the Republic of Moldova, is located in the middle of the Balti steppe with a fragmented plain terrain, 138 km north of Chisinau, 65 km from the border with Romania and 120 km from the border with Ukraine, neighboring the towns of Falesti, Glodeni, Riscani and Singerei, which are 20-40 km away. The municipality of Balti includes the Sadovoe and Elizaveta communes.

Vision on developing the Business Support Infrastructure
For the next years, the Balti municipality aims to develop a growth model based on investment and exports, and the main development directions will be manufacture and export enterprises.
The presence of a large number of industrial enterprises serves as a good prerequisite for the development of small and medium-sized enterprises in Balti, but also for the whole region by integration into supply chains of large enterprises. The implementation of this policy will be possible through the active involvement of external development partners as well as organizations supporting small and medium enterprises.
By increasing the competitiveness of local businesses, we aim to increase investment in active long-term assets and create a sustainable business environment. At the same time, the focus will be on the development and implementation of innovation and technology transfer to the local business environment, on the development of IT enterprises, the diversification of entrepreneurial activity with high value added, on intensifying cooperation and promotion relations, on attracting and retaining highly qualified specialists and on improving the relationship of the business environment and local public authorities.
For the period of 2016-2019, the municipality proposed the following objectives/actions in order to develop the economic environment:
- Developing the investment guide of Balti municipality
- Supporting the participation of local enterprises with high development potential and an important role in the development of the city, and participation at international exhibitions
- Regularly organizing specialized and universal fairs and exhibitions
- Establishing the „Business Event Expo Center” Regional Business and Exhibition Center (according to the Strategic Urban Agenda for the Central Area of Balti, approved by the Municipal Council within the STATUS transnational project)
- Creating a business incubator for small and medium businesses
- Implementing the project to promote business and entrepreneurship in the sectors of tourism and culture under the Black Sea Basin Joint Operational Program 2014-2020
- Establishing the innovations center
